Our newest collection garnered lots of attention from our customers and local media with the SF Chronicle, 7×7, and The New Fillmore all showing us some love. Matthew’s very first trip to The Golden City included a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, a ferry ride past Alcatraz, dim sum at Yank Sing, and a day spent drawing at our shop. Who doesn’t like an adorable fur ball or jellyfish on their shoes? Some tiny tots who challenged Matthew with requests for swords and cheetahs on their shoes instead! Lucky for him, most of our customers were happy to have a custom confetti print or one of his characters animate the canvas on their feet.
Matthew is a New York based illustrator who has created images for fashion houses, including Marc Jacobs, Adidas and Swatch, and most recently designed custom shoes for Blue Ivy Carter. Yes, Beyoncé and I have something in common! She loves Matthew too.
Our launch party welcomed over 100 people of all ages. To accommodate all the excitement, we had to move the kids’ face paint station outdoors as well as the complimentary Smitten ice cream stand. Inside, Matt worked his magic until his hands cramped, personalizing each new pair of kicks and leaving a huge smile on the face of kids and adults alike. We love putting on events like this where we all play – something that we do too little of as we grow.
Stop by to see what’s left of the San Francisco exclusive, hand painted collection. Sign up on our website or in-store to our community list so that you receive the invites to our upcoming parties in April and May. Spring is in full bloom, and there is no better shoe than a Superga to have fun in.
